Traditional Pot by Sratyu'we, Zuni and Laguna Pueblo
Traditional Pot with Geometric Designs by Sratyu'we (Gladys Paquin, 1936-2020), Zuni and Laguna Pueblo clay, pigment 5 1/4" high x 6 3/4" diameter
Gladys Paquin, (Sratyu'we) was of mixed Zuni and Laguna ancestry. She was raised at Santa Ana Pueblo and, as an adult, moved to her mother's reservation of Laguna Pueblo. Her teacher was her Santa Ana stepmother, and, as a result, her pottery shapes are more akin to those of Santa Ana than those of Laguna. Her designs favor neither pueblo; rather they are creations of her own. Gladys Paquin taught her sons Danny and Andrew Padilla as well as Max Early and Myron Sarracino in the art of pottery making.
