Cribbage Board with Multiple Figures, c. 1960 Siberian Yup'ik St. Lawrence Island, Alaska walrus ivory, scrimshaw design
1 1/2” h x 16.5” l x 1.5” w
Notes: This cribbage board depicts two seals back to back on one end, and a shaman figure on the back side of the cribbage board. The artist used the natural split of the walrus ivory tusk to represent the legs of the shaman. There is red pigment in the mouths of the seals. The cribbage board has the original pegs, and the artist carved a decorative stand in order for the cribbage board to stay flush. This is a rare and highly collectible carving.
