Zuni potter and silversmith Jobeth D. Mayes has been creating work since 1971. Her jewelry works in cluster style, channel inlay, and shadowbox are unique to her and the design never varies other than the use of turquoise, coral, or other semi-precious stone.
She is the granddaughter of Leekya Deyuse, one of the most celebrated figures in Zuni lapidary and fetish carving of the twentieth century. Her work carries forward the Leekya family's deep artistic lineage.
Jobeth’s hallmark is distinctive, her full etched name, often accompanied by a distinctive Zuni Maize (corn) stalk. This double-element mark (name + corn motif) identifies her work with Zuni agricultural symbolism.
