"General Plutarco Elías Calles is Deported by Order of the Government of General Lázaro Cárdenas, 1936.", 1960, Leopoldo Mendez (1902-1969) and Alfredo Zalce (1908-2003), linoleum cut, 14.5 x 17 framed, hand signed in the lower right corner, mint condition.
The print depicts the arrest of Calles, who was found by police at home in bed reading a Spanish translation of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf. The officer in the center of the print points at the airplane that will fly Calles to exile in the United States. Méndez and Zalce created their print in 1960 at the Taller de Gráfica Popular (TGP - Popular Graphic Arts Workshop). Their work was published in the 1960 TGP portfolio, "450 Años De Lucha: Homenaje Al Pueblo Mexicano (450 Years of Struggle: Homage to the Mexican People).
