Born in Bellingham, WA in 1960, Ruth Wilbur-Peterson moved to the Skokomish Reservation in 1974, where she met and eventually married Andy Wilbur-Peterson, renowned Skokomish Nation master carver.

Ruth was introduced to the traditional life style and arts of the Coast Salish culture, and learned to weave and gather basket material from elder basket-makers from both the Skokomish and Chehalis Tribes. As well, Ruth's husband taught her the traditional art of design and carving in the Coast Salish style. Today, her artwork varies from cedar carvings and silkscreen prints, too glass, bronze and polymer. Ruth also spins and weaves wool.

Over the years, Ruth has taught and helped many community members learn various traditional artforms. She is most proud of working along side of her three daughters Andrea, Malynn, and Bunni, who are all accomplished artists who will carry on the traditional art and culture of the Skokomish Nation.
