Master Kwakwaka’wakw carver Jack James was from Gilford Island, British Columbia. Jack was a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nation. Renowned Kwakwaka’wakw carver Joe Peters (1959-1994) was Jack’s grandson. Joe credits his grandfather for mentoring him and teaching him.
