Crow Mother is called the Mother of all kachinas. She appears in the Powamu ceremony, marking the start of the planting season, a very important rite. Crow Mother is usually portrayed holding a basket of corn. At the start of Powamu, the kachina supervises the initiation of children into the kachina culture. In this depiction, Crow Mother is carrying a basket with the ears of corn, one blue, one yellow, and one red.
