Tzintzuntzan is an indigenous community of about 1700 inhabitants on the shores of Lake Patzcuaro, in Michoacan, Mexico. Tzintzuntzan is one of many Michoacán towns sustaining a living tradition: alfarería (pottery making).  Clay is abundant in the Michoacán hills, and many Purhépecha Indians dedicate their lives to creating both utilitarian and artistic pots.  Tzintzuntzan's traditional glaze colors and designs are unmistakable.

Consuelo Rendon Peña lived in Tzintzuntzan, Michoacan until her death in 2017. She made wonderful naive cream colored pottery at her home, stacked the finished pieces in her wheelbarrow & took them to the plaza to sell. She was well known for plates with painted designs of village life, and well as figures of angels, mermaids, and saints wearing elaborate crowns.
