April Coppini was born and raised in a wooded suburb of Rochester, New York. She attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 1990, and Alfred University’s School of the Arts from 1991-1994. She received her BFA from Alfred in printmaking and drawing, and moved to Portland, Oregon in 1995.

Coppini is best known for her passionate interest in all creatures and their importance to place. She portrays a focused record in her subject matter depicting the wild and unseen side of animalia. With the underlying message of the importance of all creatures and their independent role to ecosystem and/or as pollinators, predators, scavengers or even domesticated animals, Coppini asks the viewer to consider the role our species takes (or doesn’t) in protecting the delicate relationship between mankind and animal, as well as a direct reminder of our symbiotic relationship to all life on a global level.

April works at her home studio in NE Portland where she lives with her family, and finds inspiration from her three children, their eleven chickens, two cats, and dog, Duke. When she is not working, she spends time watching her children, fussing over the chickens, computer stalking other artists, and running with Duke.
