Inuit carver Simeonie Killiktee was born in 1973 in Kimmirut, Nunavut, Canada. The small hamlet of Kimmirut, formerly called Lake Harbour, is on the southern shores of Baffin Island. Simeonie learned the art of soapstone carving at the age of seven from his father, renowned carver Shorty Killiktee, and his grandfather, when the family still lived on the land. Simeonie learned sculpting in the traditional way, which is by watching elders and more experienced carvers sculpt.

Simeonie works mostly with serpentine, a very hard stone which is originally from Nunavut, and from the same family as jade. He carves a variety of subject matter including fish, birds, caribou, seals and walrus, but is best known for his elegant Musk Oxen.
