The late Ernie Henderson, a member of the Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations (Laichwiltach/Nakwaxda’x culture), is the son of Chief Sam Henderson of Campbell River, BC. Chief Sam Henderson was regarded among Chiefs to be a keeper of tradition, raised inthe old potlatch ways, who passed the traditional ways and understanding down to each of his 18 children.
Ernie was surrounded by a large family of master artists including his nephew’s Bill and Mark Henderson. He passed the traditional way of carving, the respect, understanding and importance on to his own son, Greg Henderson, who today is keeping the family traditions alive.
